After analysing the data, we discovered that many users were unable to see the feed after installing the app. This was due to the design of the flow, which required users to create an account before browsing the app. We identified key flows that guest users could do in the app, such as browsing and searching recipes and subscribing to Premium. To make the flow easier for users with an account, we added a sign-up banner to the feed.

After discussing with engineers and product managers, we identified every possible action that requires users to create an account. These actions include saving recipes, reacting to and commenting on content, publishing recipes, accessing notifications, and following other users. For each action, I designed an intercept to prompt users to sign up or log in to their existing account.

I also redesigned Settings page that enables guest users to manage their subscription even without creating an account. The page also helps users to change their region easily without needing to go to Welcome page. The prompt to log in was also made more prominent, allowing existing users to access their account quickly.

As part of this project, we also improved the process of changing regions. Cookpad, our platform, is accessible in over 70 regions and supports more than 30 languages. In certain countries, such as India, the app accommodates up to 6 different languages. Initially, our system automatically selects the region and language that users are most likely to prefer. However, we acknowledge that there are instances where the default selection may not be accurate, necessitating manual adjustments. Additionally, some users reside overseas and desire to explore recipes from their home country. Consequently, we have made various improvements to facilitate a quick and straightforward experience when changing regions and languages.
